The train in this route was introduced in 1904 after the completion of Quilon-Sengottai-Virudhunagar meter gauge line and was flagged off by then Maharaja of Travancore, Moolam Thirunal. To facilitate the gauge conversion work on the Punalur-Sengottai section, train services on the section were withdrawn in September 2010.

Kalthurutty 13 arch Bridge,13 Arch Bridge Kalthurutty, (Thirteen Arch Bridge) at Kazhuthurutti, is a very beautiful sight in the Kollam district. This bridge is sandwiched by the Kollam-Shenkottai NH at one side and the River Kazhuthurutti on the other. It was constructed during the British regime.

Palaruvi waterfalls


It is the 32nd highest waterfall in India and 3rd highest waterfall in Kerala and is flowing to Kallada river.
It  has a height of 299 feet, and is classified under 
Horse Tail shaped single drop falls.

Kuttalam (Courtalam) main water falls.
  • Peraruvi (main falls) the biggest falls in Courtallam, is about 60m high. The flow of water is interrupted by he Pongumakadal, a 19m deep crater and comes down with greatly reduced impact, making a bath safe.
  • Aintharuvi (five falls) has five separate cascades of water form this waterfalls.
